Bodrum Sightseeing with UTS Services

Bodrum’s pretty harbor is dominated by the massive bulk of St. Peter’s Castle, which was built in the early 15th century by the Crusading order known as the Knights of St. John. Today it houses a fascinating Museum of Underwater Archaeology. Among the most notable exhibits is an exquisite display of glassware salvaged from shipwrecks. Bodrum was ancient Halicarnassos, and in the 4th century BC it became the capital of the Carian Kingdom, whose King Mausolos has given us the word mausoleum. On his death in 353 BC his wife (who was also his sister) the formidable Queen Artemisia II erected an enormous monument to his memory, which came to be regarded as one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. We will visit the site of the Mausoleum, as well as the ancient theatre of Halicarnassos. You will then be free to explore Bodrum and its delightful old quarter at your leisure.
